Gorgeous kitchen remodel encompassing a new layout to create an island

CLIENT:Jane Ann & Gary
LOCATION: Allison Park, PA

This timeless kitchen renovation features a two-tone kitchen and an island with room for two. The base cabinets are a medium cherry and the uppers are a soft white. The backsplash is a gorgeous shade of french blue that compliments the subtle veining in the bright quartz countertop. Seeded glass pendant lights with chrome accents adorn the kitchen table and island, while the cabinet hardware and faucet have a soft coppery undertone. This new kitchen is bright, classic and timeless!

Goals:

On this kitchen remodel the goal was to make the kitchen bigger and hopefully create enough space to have an island. The homeowners, who also entertain and cook a lot, wanted the space to feel bright and inviting. Having lived in the house for several years, it was vital for the cabinetry layout to include dedicated spaces for everything.

Challenges:

The primary obstacle encountered in redesigning the first floor layout was addressing the duct system. Additionally, a decision needed to be made regarding the existing flooring. When walls are relocated, there can be gaps in the material that are difficult to piece in. Lastly, the room was often dark, even during the day due to the location of the windows.

Solutions:

In order to optimize the first floor layout and accommodate a two-person seating island, we made several strategic changes. We relocated the powder room to the front of the house and opened up the hallway to the basement. Next, we were able to source the same wood flooring and carefully splice in new material where any walls were removed. To brighten the space we added recessed lights, undercabinet lighting, and decorative light fixtures to provide many levels of light to suit any mood or task.
