Modern Master Bathroom remodel with a soaking tub and luxurious details

Kitchen & Bath

Modern

New Layout

CLIENT:Jennifer and Kevin
LOCATION: Sewickley, PA

This sizeable master bathroom features large format porcelain tile with a Statuario marble pattern that is carried throughout the room. The shower is accented by a matching herringbone mosaic on the floor and back wall. It also has a generous shaving ledge, tall custom door, and a gorgeous shower system in Brushed Brass. The coordinating brass lighting adds a dramatic accent that keeps the space feeling warm and inviting. The layout was improved with a private toilet room and a soaking tub situated to enjoy the beautiful view. The custom vanity and linen cabinet have internal power and ample storage space. Every detail has been thought of in this Elegant Escape!

Goals:

Bringing this 1980s bathroom into the 21st century was a top priority. The original layout was too open and lacked storage, so our goal was to add smart storage options and create a toilet room for more privacy. We also wanted to incorporate a towel warmer, additional storage at the vanity area, and add outlets where they were needed.

Challenges:

Being in a 100 year old home with large windows made this update a challenge. The limits on usable wall space determined the size of many of the features that we wanted to add. With that in mind, storage solutions needed to be well thought out to maximize the available space as much as possible. We also wanted to make sure that the modern aesthetic we were introducing was the right scale and feel to flow with the rest of the home.

Solutions:

By moving the tub to below the window we were able to add a linen cabinet and toilet room. The pocket door saves on space and the tall built-in that matches the vanity keeps the modern feel of the room. Using large format tile in a traditional marble motif kept the look and feel in line with the house, and the larger scale of the tile shows off the ceiling height and gorgeous windows. Recessing the oversized medicine cabinet keeps the smaller vanity area feeling open and hides tons of storage space.
