Fresh and bright hall bathroom remodel with lots of upgrades

CLIENT:Andrea & Chris
LOCATION: Wexford, PA

A dark and underused hall bathroom transforms into a spa-like retreat with several luxury upgrades. The project started with a light wood furniture style vanity, complimented with high end lighting. The plumbing was upgraded with a bidet style toilet and the shower with a handheld option. The luxury details didn’t stop there, the shower has a well placed niche and a quartz built-in bench all within a custom glass enclosure. The tile pattern features a modern layout combination of stacked and soldier courses. Carrying it through the room as wainscoting makes the room feel bigger, more luxurious, and is easy to maintain for this busy family.

Goals:

The hall bathroom in this home had a huge footprint that was very poorly utilized. A top priority was to make better use of the space. Next, we needed the bathroom to function well as a powder room and a guest bath. The clients also wanted to add more light and bring in some luxury upgrades. With this bathroom being adjacent to the guest bedroom on the main floor, it was also important to include some safety features to allow older family to use the space with ease.

Challenges:

While the bathroom’s footprint was spacious, we encountered surprising challenges within the walls. Notably, a wood casement window posed privacy concerns once we expanded the shower into its space. Additionally, a pocket door situated behind the vanity and toilet limited space for electrical work. While many families may like the large linen closet, in this home it was redundant being right next to a full bedroom. Lastly, there was an unused laundry chute inside the linen closet that had recently been discovered by their toddler.

Solutions:

To address the window’s placement within the shower area, we ordered a new window featuring privacy glass and tiled around the frame to keep it watertight and maintenance free. To optimize lighting at the vanity despite space constraints, we installed pendant lights instead of wall lights. This challenge in particular made the lights a dramatic feature! Upon removing the unneeded closet, we took the opportunity to seal off the chute, averting any further incidents. The extra space is perfect for a busy family at clean up time.
