The finishing touches in a home make all the difference. In this newlywed couple’s first home, it was important to establish their combined style adding warmth to the main living areas through accessories and decor. The entryway features a simple bench seat to welcome visitors and a dramatic open stairway that is the perfect spot for an organic collage. In the dining room, semi-custom window treatments, a gallery wall featuring family photos, and a well-curated centerpiece create a cohesive and personalized space. Similarly, in the main living area, a large art piece, semi-custom window treatments, and carefully selected pillows contribute to a sense of completeness and comfort.

Goals:

For these first time homebuyers and newlyweds the goal was to bring in some finishing touches to their new home. It was important to blend their preferred styles and colors together and begin to create a palette they could carry into the rest of their home. Affordability was a priority, and they were eager to participate in executing some aspects of the project themselves.

Challenges:

The biggest challenge with this project was the awkward entryway. We also had a sliding door between the family room and kitchen that felt out of place. Adding personality to the home without paint colors required some clever solutions as well.

Solutions:

Opting for a design package over full services allowed them to allocate more of their investment toward accessories. Semi-custom drapery also provided a tailored look at a great price point. In the entry, we used an affordable bench seat and ready-made pillow, while the natural wood collage was a worthwhile splurge. In the family room, we extended the use of semi-custom drapes in a neutral and treated the sliding glass door similarly to the windows for a cohesive look. Personal touches, such as pillows, large art featuring their favorite travel destinations, and a grouping of wedding photos, added the perfect finishing touches to their first floor.
