In this project, we had the incredible opportunity to design a bedroom from the ground up. Aside from the carpet, we updated every element, including the ceiling fan and wall color. Our design inspiration stemmed from a decorative pillow and various images provided by the homeowner. We painted the walls a soothing, saturated blue-green, creating a calming atmosphere.
To enhance functionality and style, we incorporated cerused oak dressers and nightstands, featuring internal power outlets and lined inserts for optimal storage of phones and jewelry. The large, fully upholstered bed frame was perfectly scaled for the room, providing a soft, neutral foundation for beautiful bedding. Additionally, the spacious layout allowed for a cozy seating area, ideal for reading or taking a quiet break from daily life.
Goals:
The primary goal of this bedroom design was to create a serene haven for beginning and ending the day. The homeowner envisioned carved furniture and a color palette inspired by a decorative pillow they had recently purchased. With the room nearly empty, our objective was to transform the space into a functional and enjoyable retreat.
Challenges:
One of the biggest challenges we faced was the room’s size combined with a long list of necessary selections, all within a modest budget. Clever shopping strategies and a focus on durable pieces allowed us to allocate resources effectively. We also encountered a speed bump with a defective ceiling fan, but it was easily addressed and the electrician was rescheduled!
Solutions:
To stay within budget, we prioritized investments in key pieces while identifying areas where we could save. Our focus was on the dresser, bed, and nightstands as primary investments. We sourced beautiful yet affordable lighting and accessories, opting for ready-made window treatments layered over existing blinds. Additionally, we crafted artwork using digital prints and upcycled frames, adding a personal touch without straining the budget.
